We took part in the online Water Safety Webinar for the school on Tuesday 10th June. This webinar outlined the dangers of the water and also the safety procedures for the children during the summer months when they would use the water for swimming and other water activities. The children found the webinar very informative and interesting and some of the key points are as follows,
• NEVER SWIM ALONE;
• If possible, swim when a Lifeguard is on duty.
• Tell the people you are with that you are going into the water.
• Swim in daylight and not the darkness.
• Look for the signs and pay attention.
• Avoid unfamiliar places.
• Don’t stay in the water for too long at one time.
• Swim parallel and close to the shore.
• Always wear a life jacket in a boat or on other floating devices.
• Never ever use a floating device at the beach.
• What are the Lifeguard flags and what do they mean?
• What do you know about riptides and currents and how to stay safe and learn to escape from them.
