On Wednesday of March Mary Barry from the Heritage Council made a visit to the school to teach the children about our native birds in Ireland. The day began with the children seeing a taxidermy display of Native Irish raptors such as the Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Barn Owl and more. The children also learned about garden birds and listened to the story of the Pheasant and Wren.
Next the children got to hear the actual bird song from each bird using a collection of toy ‘singing birds’. They played games by trying to identify which bird song came from which bird.
Finally, the children got to make their own bird’s nest using natural materials such as moss, leaves, straw and twigs etc.
